P is for Passport

At the Bridges Bay, we are getting our minds, "Ready to Read" with our January book of the Month, "P is for Passport". In Reader's Workshop, we are working on learning tools or strategies to help us become better readers. One of the strategies that we learned was to "Warm Up" our brains before reading. We were to preview the cover of the unfamiliar book we were reading by predicting what we thought the book would be about. We used the pictures on the cover as well as the title.

Students previewed our January Book of the Month, "P is for Passport". They responded by recording what their thoughts were when they looked at its cover.

Sight Word Centers

Each day at the Bridges Bay, our students complete Morning Work. This usually means practicing our WOW words lists using magnetic letters, writing sentences with colored pencils, or copying these words with dry erase markers and boards. Each student is working on a individualized list. You received an updated copy of your student's list today. Your student should be working five words at a time and should atleast be able to read List Two. Thank you to all of the parent(s) that are working with their students at home with our WOW words making match games, flashcards, and more!

Where in the World is Chet the Bear?

Chet spent the holidays in London, England as Mrs. V was so gracious to share her trip with us and all of the locations that Chet was able to see! Chet rode on the London Eye, saw Big Ben, a real Bath :), and many more of London's great sights.

Sunshine at the Park

What a wonderful and sunny time we had at our last field trip! Seeing the Tale of Despereaux with our family and friends was a treat and having a pinic at Sunshine Park really was a great way to end the day.
The Tale Of Despereaux warmed our hearts and had us all thinking about what it means to be a "hero". Just when you thought a hero was someone big in size, Despereaux showed us differently :).
We brought our own little furry friend Chet with us as we had a picnic at Sunshine Park and enjoyed playing with all our Kindergarten friends. Check the pictures from our latest adventure.

Holiday Play 2008

The Happiest Time of the Year!

What a merry way to start off our Christmas Break. We had a great time performing our retelling of Jan Brett's,The Mitten, our poetry reading,The Five Little Snowmen, and singing our holiday tunes. We were so grateful to be joined by our families and friends from our neighboring Kindergarten class for this performance! What a beautiful backdrop handmade by Mrs. Cordoza and balloon props brought in by the S family!
Next off it was centers created by Ms. L's Fifth Grade class to make our day oh so merry! We made candy cane ornaments,drew in shaving cream snow,created snowmen with rice cakes for a yummy snack, bowled over snowpins, and played with snowballs in a creative obstacle course!
After our pretend snow day fun, we joined our families in a traditional holiday luncheon. Our bellies were very jolly! What a treat to taste all the of the traditional holiday dishes prepared by our families and even some very yummy desserts.
T's family brought us yet more wonderful wintry crafts including a picture frame, snowflake ornament, and holiday card to create right before we went to visit Auntie Claus.
Auntie Claus is one of Chets Creek's most wonderful traditions. Each year all students will receive a visit from Auntie Claus as she reads a story all about the holidays and who else but the one and only, "Auntie Claus"! The students munched on cookies and sipped their milk as they finished the day. What a great year to send off 2008 and join our families in holiday fun!
